Learn Three Ways To Customize Printed T-Shirts Without A Lot Of Effort
When representing a cheer squad at a competition or simply showing family pride when going on a trip to a theme park together, a printed shirt can be great. You can have shirts created with catchy phrases on them or designs and then modify each shirt to make them even more unique and customized for the person who will be wearing it. There are many different things that can be done to a T-shirt to make it one-of-a-kind. The guide that follows walks you through a few cool ways to modify a T-shirt to make it perfect for you.
Make Tied Sides
Lay the shirt flat on the table. Cut a slit down each side of the shirt where the seams are, starting at the bottom of the shirt and stopping a few inches below the armpit seam. Turn the shirt so that the slits are perpendicular to you. Cut slits that are roughly two inches in length starting at the seam and moving toward the center of the shirt. The strips need to be roughly an inch in width. Repeat the process up both sides of the shirt until you reach the end of each slit. Grab the strip located closest to the armpit on the front of the shirt and tie it into a knot with the strip on the back of the shirt. Keep knotting all the strips down both sides of the strip until you are done. When you are finished, the shirt is ready to wear.
Remove the Collar
Take a pair of scissors and cut roughly half any inch around the collar of the shirt. Grab the portion of the shirt that you trimmed and pull the sides away from one another. This will stretch out the fabric and cause the edge to curl so that you cannot tell that it was cut. When you wear the shirt, it will hang off of your shoulder to create a rocker look.
Add Lace to the Back
Purchase lace doilies at a fabric store and lay them against the back of the shirt so you know how many you need to create a neat design on the top back of the shirt. Move the shirt and sew the sides of the doilies together so that they will sit flat on your back when you are done. Lay the doilies back on the shirt and cut away the portion of the shirt that can be seen under the doilies. Use needle and thread to attach the edges of the doilies to the shirt to create a lacy back on the shirt.
All of these alterations can be done quickly and easily on your own. You do not need a sewing machine or specialized equipment to show your unique style to the world. Scissors, needle, thread, and time are the only tools you need to customize any shirt. When having the shirts printed, be sure to get them in a few different sizes to ensure that there will be one to fit every person who wants to wear one.
